What You’ll Be Doing Satisfactorily underwrites all mortgage loan programs/products offered by the credit unionIndependently underwrites complex mortgage loan applicationsAnalyzes mortgage loan applications and required documentation; ensures fulfillment of all secondary market loan program guidelines and/or WESTconsin Credit Union policiesEnsures that all loans are underwritten in compliance with all federal and state requirementsAnalyzes all loan risk factors and makes approval decisions within established limitsMakes approval recommendations to the AVP - Mortgage Quality and Underwriting, and/or the VP - Mortgage Lending for loans which exceed established limitsVerifies data accuracy and integrity by reconciling the data entered into the loan origination system with the documentation provided by members and/or third partiesMaintains high standards for mortgage loan quality and complianceInforms Mortgage Loan Originators and/or Mortgage Processors of required documentation needed to satisfy any AUS findings and other applicable loan program guidelinesReviews AUS findings, credit bureau reports, purchase contracts, and appraisals to ensure compliance with secondary market loan program guidelines and/or WESTconsin Credit Union policiesReviews appraisals, title work, well and septic, flood certifications, child support dockets, and other applicable legal documentation and/or inspectionsMaintains high standards of judgement and integrityHas independent critical thinking skills based upon established credit union procedures and policiesConsistently demonstrates ethical decision-making, discretion, and confidentialityIs trusted by leadership and respected by peersDevelops and maintains relationships with internal credit union teamsCollaborates with Mortgage Loan Originators and/or Mortgage Processors to effectively resolve any loan application deficiencies or exceptions identifiedIs available to Mortgage Loan Originators and Mortgage Processors, and shares specific underwriting practices, considerations, and approachesEffectively communicates loan decisions or requests for additional information and documentationCollaborates with internal team members and departments; is an available mortgage resource to other WESTconsin Credit Union departments and employeesAssists Mortgage Lending LeadershipAssists with any secondary market rebuttals for proposed buybacksAssists with on-going department compliance considerations and activities, such as HMDA and TRIDAssists with on-going process improvement initiatives; helps to identify recurring application deficiencies and means for improvementAssists the AVP - Mortgage Quality and Underwriting with the review of and the updating of credit union mortgage policiesAssists the AVP - Mortgage Quality and Underwriting with department meetings and/or new employee training needsObtains and maintains relevant mortgage lending knowledge based upon general mortgage lending practices, credit union policies and procedures, and other industry resource What You’ll Need To Be Successful Bachelor’s degree in a business-related field and five years related experience in the financial services industry and/or mortgage underwriting experienceStrong written and oral communications skills with an emphasis on urgent and timely responsesAbility to read, analyze, and interpret mortgage regulations, technical journals, financial reports, legal documents, appraisals, and WESTconsin Credit Union policies Why Choose WESTconsin Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance PlansAnnual Healthy Living Fund ContributionStudent Loan Repayment ProgramCompetitive SalaryImpressive 401(k) Contribution and Match PlanPaid Time Off Accrual11 Paid Holidays Visit WESTconsin Careers Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities This employer is required to notify all applicants of their rights pursuant to federal employment laws.
