Mortgage Loan Officer I/II
To interview and counsel members about first mortgage loans, take mortgage loan applications, and guide members through the mortgage process from initial application to loan closing. Responsibilities include determining applicants' qualifications, providing detailed information about Navy Federal's mortgage and equity loan products, clarifying the mortgage process, and evaluating and recommending financing alternatives. Additionally, this role involves building and maintaining referral relationships with realtors, builders, and other centers of influence.
Responsibilities
- Work effectively and efficiently with automated systems
- Apply accounting, credit, and lending principles and techniques
- Provide member/customer service in a related field (e.g., realty, insurance, retail banking, or financial institution)
- Understand the lending application and approval process
- Apply mortgage lending concepts and principles
- Adhere to banking and financial industry standards and practices
- Register with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (includes fingerprinting and background checks prior to employment)
- Use database and presentation software effectively
- Perform mathematical calculations accurately
- Guide members through interactions to reduce effort and enhance loyalty
- Comprehend, analyze, apply, and communicate complex written legal documents
- Speak and present professionally in front of groups
- Use word processing and spreadsheet software effectively
Qualifications
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently with automated systems
- Familiarity with accounting, credit, and/or lending principles and techniques
- Experience in member/customer service, preferably in a related field (e.g., realty, insurance, retail banking, or financial institution)
- Exposure to lending application and approval process
- Familiarity with mortgage lending concepts and principles
- Familiarity with banking/financial industry standards and practices
- Registration with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (includes fingerprinting and background checks prior to employment)
- Effective database and presentation software skills
- Skill in performing mathematical calculations and working accurately with numbers
- Skill in actively guiding members through interactions to reduce member effort and enhance loyalty
- Skill in comprehending, analyzing, applying, and communicating complex written legal documents
- Skill in speaking and/or presenting in front of groups in a professional setting
- Effective word processing and spreadsheet software skills
Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of Navy Federal Mortgage Production and/or Servicing Systems
- Working knowledge of mortgage/equity loan processing, closing, documentation requirements, and regulations
- Familiarity with mortgage lending requirements, regulations, and procedures for VA and conventional loan programs
