About the role
The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) is responsible for sourcing new mortgage loan business from leads generated inside and outside of the Bank. The MLO takes loan applications, reviews documentation, sets realistic expectations for applicants, and provides regular updates throughout the loan process. The role requires familiarity with Bank credit policy and guidelines of GSEs, FHA, and VA.
Responsibilities
- Originate eligible mortgage loans, focusing on marketing activities to generate referral activity from Prosperity Banking Centers, realtors, home builders, financial planners, networking groups, trade associations, and personal sphere of influence.
- Meet minimum production expectations: 5 units or $1.0 Million in eligible loan volume monthly, and a 90-day rolling average of 15 units or $3.0 Million in eligible loan volume.
- Visit assigned Prosperity Bank locations regularly to build internal relationships, educate employees about mortgage introductions, and identify opportunities to cross-sell Bank financial services.
- Establish and maintain effective communication and coordination with Bank personnel in mortgage fulfillment and management.
- Present a professional demeanor, representing Prosperity Bank with high ethical standards and safeguarding customer personal information.
- Meet with potential customers to assess financial needs and recommend suitable mortgage products.
- Oversee the customer experience from loan origination through closing.
- Stay informed of and comply with lending standards, legal requirements, Bank policies, and regulatory guidelines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; advanced degree preferred.
- NMLS certification.
- 3 to 5 years of prior mortgage banking experience, including working knowledge of FNMA/FHLMC, FHA, and VA.
- Valid driver’s license, automobile insurance, and adherence to cell phone use policies for outside sales activities.
Skills
- Knowledge of Bank consumer mortgage lending policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Understanding of financial analysis and creditworthiness determination.
- Excellent communication, public relations, and interviewing skills.
- Proficiency in related computer applications and business machines.
- Ability to compute interest, payments, profit and loss, financial ratios, percentages, cash flow, and debt service.
- Strong reading, writing, and verbal communication skills, including proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Physical & Mental Requirements
- Frequent talking to convey detailed or important instructions accurately.
- Average hearing to receive ordinary information and conversations.
- Repetitive motion using wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
- Average visual acuity for document preparation, inspection, or machinery operation.
- Moderate physical activity throughout the workday (standing, walking, reaching, driving).
- Ability to sit for extended periods and lift or move up to 25 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods.
- Ability to deal with variables under limited standardization and interpret various instructions.
- Basic algebra and mathematical reasoning for financial calculations.
