This job is within the American Airlines Credit Union. The role is responsible for qualifying American Airlines Credit Union members to determine the proper loan program, complete loan applications and keep members informed of the loan status.
What You'll Do
- Aid members in completing online mortgage applications, providing members with all required disclosures and obtaining necessary support documents
- Negotiate terms and conditions of loans with members in accordance with Credit Union Policy and Procedures
- Set up loans; gather and review qualifying documents
- Place applicable orders for mortgage-related services and process loans
- Perform income analysis of loan documentation, to include complex tax returns such as those for corporations, partnerships, and sub-S corporations for self-employed borrowers
- Underwrite loans using automated underwriting programs and credit union decision matrices and referred loans not approved by the automated underwriting program to Credit Union underwriters
- Serve as the primary contact for all parties involved on each loan from application to close, utilizing clear and effective communications skills
- Provide excellent member service to Credit Union members and employees
- Maintain referral relationships with realtors, builders, internal partners and members in association with the Credit Union member base
- Maintain effective communication with all Credit Union departments to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing Credit Union goals
- Work collaboratively with team in analyzing and solving situations that may arise in the mortgage application and loan process
- Stay informed of trends and developments in the local real estate market
- Recommend product and pricing changes to ensure Credit Union is competitive within the industry
- Remain up to date on state regulations governing Credit Union lending, with particular emphasis on rules and regulations governing real property lending on first mortgage loans and secondary emphasis on home equity loans
- Strive for continuous improvement of processes and quality of service in support of Credit Union goals
- Handle business loans (credit cards, secured/unsecured, and commercial property) in addition to a regular mortgage portfolio, if assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Education & Prior Job Experience: High school diploma or GED
- Preferred Qualifications: Education & Prior Job Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent education and/or work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of recent mortgage loan origination and processing experience on conventional, FHA, and/or VA products or in the financial services industry
- Minimum of 3 years experience in a customer service related industry
Skills, Licenses & Certifications
- Skilled in Microsoft Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint) gained through either work experience with the software or education and hands-on use of the software
- Ability to utilize lending system software (LOS) and ability to learn new software applications
- Knowledge of all loan programs offered by the Credit Union, including forms and documentation for each type of loan, and the ability to apply that knowledge successfully in the job
- Knowledge of how other Credit Union departments are interrelated with the Mortgage Department and the ability to apply that knowledge effectively in performance of the job
- Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment, handle multiple tasks and function as an integral part of a team
- Strong math proficiency, with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to interact professionally with all employees and members
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision while using discretion in decision making and sound judgment in problem solving
- Strong organization skills and capacity for attention to detail
- Ability to effectively prioritize work and meet deadlines
- Ability to adjust work schedule and work additional hours as needed to support business needs
