About the role
This role identifies policy and applies specialty knowledge in monitoring and assessing processes and data. Integrates established disciplinary knowledge within the mortgage specialty with a basic understanding of related industry practices. Develops working knowledge of industry practices and standards. Must exchange information concisely and logically while being sensitive to audience diversity. The impact of this role is primarily on the team’s objectives.
The Home Lending Officer represents the Retail Mortgage business, providing superior service to clients and referral partners while originating high-quality residential real estate loans. This highly interactive role engages with retail branch partners, operations, and community business development officers to drive mortgage sales and client relationships through direct engagement with clients, real estate agents, and other referrers.
Responsibilities
- Consult with customers about their financial situation, objectives, and lending needs to help them achieve home ownership goals.
- Collect and analyze customer financial information, including income, assets, debts, cash flow, credit history, and risk tolerance.
- Assess whether customers and properties qualify for specific lending solutions and recommend appropriate options.
- Advise customers on the consequences, risks, and benefits of alternative lending solutions.
- Promote Citi’s brand and financial services to real estate agencies, builders, referral sources, and customers.
- Conduct customer visits outside Citi offices, varying based on clientele, geography, and market conditions.
- Collaborate with internal partners to support and grow customer relationships.
- Refer customers seeking non-lending financial services to appropriate Citi professionals.
- Partner with Operations teams to ensure seamless loan application processing and document acquisition.
- Work with Processors, Closers, and customers to ensure timely loan closings.
- Develop and maintain key referral relationships (Realtors, CPAs, Builders) to drive mortgage business.
- Assess risk in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws, regulations, and ethical standards while safeguarding Citi’s reputation.
- Build and maintain relationships with clients, Bank Teams, Wealth Advisors, and support teams to drive new business and retain mortgage lending, deposits, and investments.
- Introduce Citi Wealth Teams to self-sourced clients to expand relationships and develop strategic plans for client acquisition.
- Stay abreast of local market trends, industry regulations, and expand professional networks to better serve clients and represent Citi at industry events.
Requirements
- 5-8 years of residential mortgage experience.
- 1+ year of previous sales, credit, and/or finance experience.
- Proven product sales capability.
- FHA/VA and conventional loan experience preferred.
- Ability to comprehend and explain financial calculations and pricing alternatives.
- Strong communication skills to guide customers on required loan documentation.
- Knowledge of consumer lending laws and regulations, including fair lending, privacy, and RESPA.
- Demonstrated customer service skills and self-motivation to work independently.
- Strong relationship development and management skills.
- Expertise in general lending products and the overall mortgage industry.
- Must register as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and obtain a unique identifier before engaging in mortgage loan originator activities.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Pay
Full-time salary range: $120,000.00 - $120,000.00. Eligible employees may also receive discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards.
