Responsibilities

  • Supervise and provide necessary and desirable medical care within the Physician’s specialty to Dartmouth-Hitchcock patients.
  • Rotate call coverage with other physicians and allied health professionals in his or her specialty (as applicable).
  • Remain in close proximity as directed by department chair or designee while on call.
  • Spend time on administrative and record-keeping matters pertaining to the Physician’s medical practice.
  • Provide clinical and related administrative services and actively participate in and contribute to DHC’s academic endeavors.
  • Abide by Dartmouth Health Bylaws for the Professional Staff and Code of Conduct.
  • Review records and detailed medical history from patient(s).
  • Determine appropriate diagnosis (diagnoses) and treatment plan(s).
  • Order appropriate screening and diagnostic tests and studies.
  • Obtain informed consent for treatment diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and studies.
  • Interpret and evaluate test and study results.
  • Prescribe medications, treatments, and medical devices in accordance within specialty scope of practice and applicable rules and regulations.
  • Initiate referrals to other providers as necessary.
  • Initiate admission/discharge of patients, if applicable.
  • Provide consultation, education, and counseling regarding the management of acute and chronic illnesses and injuries.
  • Encourage behavioral change and assist with self-management skills to improve overall health, within specialty scope of practice.
  • Complete appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
  • Provide patient and family-centered care.
  • Insure the patient’s right to privacy, confidentiality and informed consent.
  • Supervise APP’s as directed.
  • Participate in continuing medical education (CME).
  • Participate in quality and patient safety initiatives.
  • Participate in academic responsibilities assigned by the Department Chair or designee, to include, but are not limited to:
    • Leading small group resident conferences
    • Training of Residents
    • Teaching medical and other health professional students
    • Participating in clinical trials or other sponsored research
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Advanced clinical degree (MD or DO)
  • Post graduate training in residency program
  • Current New Hampshire Medical License
  • Current or eligible for ABMS Board Certification (to be obtained within 5 years)
  • Active hospital staff membership
