Monitor Technician - Part Time

About the role
The Monitor Technician provides support to the patient care delivery team by observing the heart rhythms of patients who are receiving cardiac monitoring. This position is responsible for maintaining alarm parameters established by the physician and for notifying the Registered Nurse of critical changes in patient cardiac rhythms (as per telemetry communication protocol for Centralized Telemetry). The Monitor Technician supports organizational goals by providing quality customer service, participating in performance improvement efforts, and demonstrating a commitment to teamwork and cooperation.
Responsibilities
- Observe and interpret patient heart rhythms via cardiac monitoring.
- Maintain alarm parameters as established by the physician.
- Notify the Registered Nurse of critical changes in patient cardiac rhythms according to telemetry communication protocol.
- Demonstrate competencies as established on the Assessment and Evaluation Tool for this position.
- Participate in performance improvement efforts and teamwork initiatives.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Successful completion of a dysrhythmia recognition course within 30 days of hire.
- AHA BLS certification required within 30 days of hire or transfer.
- Cardiac monitor technician experience required.
- Proficiency in Clinical Applications preferred at time of hire; required within 30-60 days of hire if not initially proficient.
Work Environment
- Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens and infectious diseases.
- Requires considerable standing, reaching, and walking.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
