Monitor Technician: Part Time

About the role

The Telemetry Monitor Technician is responsible for the continuous monitoring, interpretation, communication, and documentation of cardiac rhythms, rhythm components, and telemetry indicators for multiple patients at remote locations across the Appalachian Regional Healthcare system. This role involves viewing electrocardiographic displays to monitor noninvasive cardiac activity, notifying healthcare personnel of variances, collaborating with clinical staff, and troubleshooting routine technical concerns with equipment.

Responsibilities

• Monitors multiple patients’ cardiac activity on an electrocardiographic display, communicates changes in pattern to appropriate healthcare personnel, and responds to alarms for safe patient care.
• Reviews patient information to determine baseline cardiac rhythm and prior variances, ensuring accurate reflection in the medical record for healthcare personnel.
• Maintains and updates records on each patient to ensure an accurate record of cardiac activity, supporting appropriate care decisions.
• Troubleshoots and identifies routine technical concerns with monitoring systems, completing repairs or contacting biomedical equipment personnel as needed.
• Utilizes telephone and overhead page technology to communicate with patient care teams across ARH facilities.
• Ensures regular attendance to carry out essential functions of the position.
• Reviews and meets ongoing education and competency requirements to maintain role-specific skills, knowledge, and abilities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, required.
• Successful completion of an Electrocardiogram (ECG) Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation course within three months of hire or a score of 85% or greater on the Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation Challenge Exam upon hire, required.
• Completion of Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course, preferred.
• One year of experience as a Telemetry Monitor Technician, preferred.
• One year of experience with direct patient care, preferred.
