Major Job Functions
- Absorb responsibility for monitoring cardiac rhythms.
- Perform telemetry monitoring duties.
- Alert nurse to respond to alarms resulting from rhythm changes.
- Alert nursing assistant or other competent staff member to respond to equipment or reception alarms (such as “leads off” or “low battery”).
- Print and document strip assessments every four hours, on admission, during a code, upon request and as rhythms/rates change.
- Actively demonstrate responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity.
Minimum Qualifications
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- EKG certification is preferred but not mandatory.
- All internal and external applicants will be required to take a Dysrhythmia class and must successfully pass the required test within 60 days of employment.
- Applicants with EKG certification or previous MT experience will be provided the option to take and pass the Dysrhythmia test in lieu of taking the class.
- All employees will be required to successfully pass the advanced dysrhythmia test every 6 months (April and October each year).
- One year of monitor technician experience is preferred.
- One year of healthcare experience (such as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, MT) is preferred.
- One year of medical terminology experience is preferred.
