Monitor Technician - Emergency Department, Full Time, Days

Major Job Functions

  • Absorb responsibility for monitoring cardiac rhythms.
  • Perform telemetry monitoring duties.
  • Alert nurse to respond to alarms resulting from rhythm changes.
  • Alert nursing assistant or other competent staff member to respond to equipment or reception alarms (such as “leads off” or “low battery”).
  • Print and document strip assessments every four hours, on admission, during a code, upon request and as rhythms/rates change.
  • Actively demonstrate responsibility concerning customer satisfaction, patient throughput and hospital functional capacity.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • EKG certification is preferred but not mandatory.
  • All internal and external applicants will be required to take a Dysrhythmia class and must successfully pass the required test within 60 days of employment.
  • Applicants with EKG certification or previous MT experience will be provided the option to take and pass the Dysrhythmia test in lieu of taking the class.
  • All employees will be required to successfully pass the advanced dysrhythmia test every 6 months (April and October each year).
  • One year of monitor technician experience is preferred.
  • One year of healthcare experience (such as Nursing Assistant, Medical Assistant, MT) is preferred.
  • One year of medical terminology experience is preferred.
