About the role

The Monitor Tech is an unlicensed person who performs indirect care in the department setting. Monitors cardiac rhythms via direct cardiac monitors. Meets the communication needs of the department. Transcribes physician orders in the absence of CPOE and EMR clinical documentation system. Verifies that lab tests and radiology tests have been ordered and done. Prepares and complies records in the unit. Orders supplies for the unit and prepares and completes each patient's chart for necessary forms needed on a daily basis. Able to assist nursing staff with indirect patient care duties as long as the activity does not distract from primary duties.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains direct cardiac monitor equipment and ensures proper functioning.
  • Monitors cardiac rhythms and reports any abnormalities to the appropriate personnel.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers.
  • Transcribes physician orders and ensures they are documented in the EMR/EPD system.
  • Verifies lab and radiology test results and ensures they are completed.
  • Prepares and complies patient records in the unit.
  • Orders supplies for the unit and ensures charts are complete for daily forms.
  • Absorbs some indirect patient care duties under supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Current certification in basic arrythmias, dysrhythmia, ECG, EKG, or Monitor Tech on hire.
  • Current BCLS (ARC or AHA) certificate upon hire and maintain current.
  • Six (6) months previous experience as Monitor Technician preferred.
  • Training on Violence in the Workplace prevention within 90 days from date of hire.

Qualifications

  • Current CPR certification.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.

Skills

  • Basic arrythmias, dysrhythmia, ECG, EKG, or Monitor Tech certification.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Basic computer literacy.
  • Ability to follow procedures and protocols.

Pay

The current compensation range for this role is $25.70 to $28.03 per hour. The exact starting compensation to be offered will be determined at the time of selecting an applicant for hire, in which a wide range of factors will be considered, including but not limited to, skillset, years of applicable experience, education, credentials and licensure.
