Molecular Biology Lab Prep Attendant (STUDENT/WORK STUDY)

About the role
The Biology Department is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student to assist with preparations of materials for the BIO 467/468 Molecular Biology lab courses. In this role, you will work collaboratively with the laboratory instructor and staff while independently performing assigned responsibilities crucial to the efficient operation of our labs.
This position offers a moderately flexible schedule and requires approximately 4 hours per week, with the opportunity to work as much as 6 hours. Your weekly schedule will be determined upon hire in partnership with the Laboratory Supervisor.
Responsibilities
- Preparing materials needed for assigned lab course(s), including:
- Transitioning lab setups between weekly meetings
- Running experiments
- Preparing media and other chemical solutions
- Troubleshooting issues with lab protocols
- Aliquoting reagents
- Washing glassware
- Handling biohazardous waste
- Working with minimal supervision and maintaining basic laboratory cleanliness and maintenance
- Performing inventory of assigned lab space and coordinating with the Laboratory Coordinator and Supervisor to ensure materials are ordered and delivered in time for labs
Requirements
- Must be a currently enrolled UM-Flint student
- Successful completion of BIO 467 Molecular Biology of Prokaryotes or higher-level biology labs
- Recommendation by a Biology Department faculty member
- A demonstrated ability to apply laboratory safety rules

Schedule
Part-time temporary position requiring approximately 4–6 hours per week. Work schedule will be determined upon hire in partnership with the Laboratory Supervisor.
Pay
$16.25 – $16.85 per hour.
