LAB ATTENDANT (Student/Work Study)

Applicants must submit a current resume with a brief cover letter that includes availability for the current semester, contact information of a UM-Flint instructor who will provide a recommendation, and a list of completed UM-Flint College of Innovation & Technology courses.

About the role

The attendant will work under the direction of the Laboratory Support Supervisor assisting the College of Innovation & Technology. The position supports various safety and stockroom needs that arise weekly.

Responsibilities

• Safety
  • Perform laboratory safety inspections and correct any deficiencies
  • Assist with the creation of standard operating procedures for laboratories
  • Collect hazardous waste, chemical and/or biohazardous
• Inventory and Stock
  • Receive and deliver packages
  • Perform stockroom inventory counts
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

• Currently enrolled UM-Flint student (any academic standing)
• Ability to work both independently and with a team
• Strong communication skills
• Positive attitude and motivated
• Ability to accurately input information into associated safety and stockroom logs
• Ability to work with common maintenance chemicals (Ethanol, Sodium Bicarbonate)
• Able to work a consistent schedule, including shifts encompassing at least 3 hours/day
• Comfortable working and following protocol for labs in the department, as well as BSL2 spaces (aseptic technique, sterility)

Modes of Work

This is an onsite position requiring a fully onsite presence at a designated U-M owned or leased work location.
