Model Based Systems Engineer (Expert)

About the role

KBR’s National Security Solutions team provides high‑end engineering and advanced technology solutions to intelligence and national security customers. The Digital Engineering Technical Modeler will work on‑site in Chantilly, VA, supporting an IC customer with space and ground systems engineering, model‑based systems engineering (MBSE), and digital engineering (DE) initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver foundational digital engineering approaches that satisfy engineering and MS&A processes.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to senior managers on new MBSE methods and techniques.
• Develop and deliver enterprise‑level digital engineering solutions, ensuring models, data, and information for space and intelligence architecture are accessible, interconnected, and structured to meet organizational goals.
• Maintain current systems engineering and MS&A processes as defined in the SOW requirements.
• Guide the federated modeling approach across the enterprise to mission partners.
• Adhere to MBSE modeling methodology guidelines and principles established by the team.
• Demonstrate complex modeling concepts and best practices to diverse stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Active/current TS/SCI with polygraph.
• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in systems engineering with expert‑level knowledge of Digital Engineering (DE) / Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
• IC customer expertise with ground and/or space‑based engineering within systems engineering teams.
• Strong understanding of data‑science concepts and technologies (relational & non‑relational databases, ontology, UAF or SysML).
• Excellent communication skills and proven ability to collaborate with teammates and stakeholders.

Desired Qualifications

• OCSMP SysML Model Builder Fundamental Concepts Certification (Level 2).
• General understanding of digital industry trends such as Cloud/IaC, Data Analytics, DevSecOps, AWS/Azure, containerization/micro‑services.
• Knowledge of developing satellite and other space‑based technologies.
• Knowledge of operations research / systems analysis.
• Familiarity with Digital Thread or Digital Twin concepts.
• Ability to mentor and train fellow systems engineers.

Pay

Basic compensation ranges from $150,000 to $187,000 USD annually, based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities, experience, and internal parity considerations.
