MOD-Lab Operator

About the role

Supports Production and Shipping departments by performing Quality functions of industry specifications that allow SSAB produced material to be supplied to customers without quality issues.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate testing equipment (Tensile, Charpy, Bend)
• Safely operate machining equipment (CNC Machine Centers)
• Safely operate sample preparation equipment
• Maintain a clean and safe work area

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Detail oriented with strong attention to accuracy
• Basic computer literacy (operation and/or troubleshooting)
• Ability to work well with other team members
• Ability to maintain a safe work area
• Ability to perform preventive maintenance on equipment
• Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
• Good attendance record

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in the operation of CNC Machining equipment
• Ability to interpret industry specifications (ASTM/EN/API/ABS/CSA)

Work Environment & Physical Demands

The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

• Alternate sitting and standing as needed throughout the 12-hour shift
• Talking: person to person, on the phone, and in group settings
• Hearing: in person, on the phone, and in group settings
• Vision: near, midrange, far, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
• Push, pull, lift, and/or carry items weighing 50 pounds or less
• Occasionally required to: stoop, kneel, twist at waist level, reach above shoulder, feel temperature and textures with hands
• Frequently required to: reach at waist/desk level, reach below waist level, handle/grip/hold/grasp with left hand and both hands, finger with both hands
• Constantly required to: handle, grip, hold, and grasp with right hand
• Work conditions: inside, in extreme hot temperatures, amid fumes/dust/dirt/smoke, around equipment in motion, amid noise (while wearing safety equipment/clothing for protection from hazards)

Schedule

• Full-time, non-exempt position eligible for overtime
• 12-hour rotating shifts
• Opportunities for overtime

About the Team

SSAB Special Steels has global responsibility for sales of SSAB's quenched and tempered (Q&T) steels and advanced high-strength steels (AHSS), as well as for steel and plate production in Oxelösund, Sweden, and Mobile, USA.
