Mobility tech
About the role
Mobility technicians provide direct patient care to assist with mobility, strength, and functional activities. They work collaboratively with the interprofessional care team, including nurses, therapists, and physicians.
Responsibilities
- Assist with post-surgical or strengthening exercises and functional activities
- Transport patients to and from treatment areas
- Assist patients in and out of bed, with lifts, and ambulate patients
- Support patient falls and safety awareness
- Participate in improving department scores for turnover/retention/employee satisfaction
- Support initiatives to prevent conditions such as pressure injuries, patient falls, and hospital-acquired infections
- Contribute to quality and safety targets on the unit-based scorecard
- Collaborate with the interprofessional team to improve patient satisfaction
- Support quality improvement projects and department shared governance activities
- Manage resources efficiently and prioritize daily tasks
- Engage in learning opportunities to expand learning and foster a positive patient care environment
Requirements
- High School diploma or equivalent
- One year Patient Care Assistant/Nursing Assistant work experience in an acute care hospital, long-term acute care hospital, or equivalent
- Six months therapy experience, e.g. PT/OT/Rehab Tech
- Nursing student who has completed first clinical rotation
- BLS - Basic Life Support or Instructor (AHA)
Skills
- Effective communication with patients, physicians, family members, and co-workers
- Independence and judgment in interactions with colleagues
- Strong time management skills
- Ability to adapt to multiple priorities with minimal supervision
- Computer proficiency, including electronic health records and Microsoft Office
