Mobility Specialist - Special Needs Services

About the Role

MMP’s Mobility Training Department is seeking a full-time energetic Transportation Mobility Specialist trainer to assist individuals with special needs in utilizing public transportation. This is a field position requiring frequent travel throughout Los Angeles County, with mileage reimbursement provided.

Responsibilities

• Educate participants to safely utilize public transit resources in classroom and in-field settings.
• Support the safety and well-being of participants at all times.
• Follow prescribed methods and procedures for each project.
• Attend public events, meetings, or outreach events.
• Update and maintain project-specific informational databases.
• Complete required reporting accurately and within established timeframes.
• Maintain ongoing effective communications with management, staff, and other parties.
• Provide back-up coverage for various projects as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Associate degree, B.A. Degree, or currently enrolled in a 2- or 4-year college program with an emphasis on education, special education, kinesiology, social work, occupational or physical therapy, psychology, or other human services-related field with 3-5 years of applicable experience working with seniors/individuals with disabilities.
• OR High School diploma with 5 years of directly related experience working with seniors/individuals with disabilities.
• Minimum of 1 year of proven marketing experience.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Mandarin, Farsi, Armenian, or Korean preferred.
• Valid California driver’s license, vehicle insurance, good driving record, and a reliable personal vehicle not shared with others.
• Certification in Adult CPR and First Aid (training will be provided).
• Must reside in Los Angeles County.

Skills & Knowledge

• Understanding of common challenges faced by persons with disabilities and seniors in utilizing public transportation.
• Knowledge of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and other applicable local, state, and federal laws governing transportation services for individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to learn, understand, and teach the use of transit maps and schedules.
• Ability to work independently and constructively in a field environment.
• Punctuality and reliability to meet project time commitments.
• Excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills.
• Professional interaction with participants.
• Marketing and promotion skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office/Outlook, Google Maps, transit apps, Skype, and Remote Desktop.
• Ability to schedule and maintain an accurate electronic calendar.

Physical Demands

• Ability to react and provide reasonable assistance to participants in emergencies.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and climb stairs.
• Frequent use of hands for typing, handling, or feeling (e.g., computer keyboard and mouse).
• Occasional lifting, carrying, or transporting of up to 15 pounds.
• Vision abilities including close, distance, and peripheral vision, as well as depth perception for driving and navigating public transportation.

Work Environment

The role is primarily field-based with occasional office work. Exposure to outside weather conditions is required. The noise level is usually moderate.

Pay

$24–$25/hour.
