About the role
Cleveland-Cliffs has an immediate opportunity for a Mobile Equipment Operator at our Toledo, OH HBI plant. This role operates various mobile equipment across the site on a rotating shift, loads HBI product to rail and trucks, and removes material from the remet bunker to various locations using front-end loaders. The operator also maintains cleanliness of site equipment such as the water truck, street sweeper, skid steer, and similar. This role interacts with the control room, maintenance, engineering, and contractors to ensure effective site operations.
Responsibilities
- Ensure adherence to safety standards and maintain equipment and surrounding areas in good condition to sustain uninterrupted operation.
- Operate various pieces of mobile equipment including but not limited to front-end loaders, skid steer, forklifts, water truck, and street sweeper.
- Conduct routine inspections including cleaning, lubricating, and performing regular safety checks to identify needed maintenance or repairs.
- Recognize upset conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
- Identify operating irregularities, troubleshoot, and correct equipment performance or relay details to craft, control room, and supervisory personnel.
- Perform safe isolation of operating equipment from energy sources to enable maintenance activities.
- Assist operators and mechanical/electrical maintenance personnel as required.
- Accurately follow procedures and provide timely feedback of conditions to supervisor.
- Inspect and fuel vehicle, monitor gauges, and other indicators to ensure safe operation.
- Provide written and/or verbal turnover information to oncoming crew members.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 2-year degree from an accredited vocational/technical school preferred.
- 2+ years of related experience as an equipment operator in an industrial environment.
- Skid steer, front-end loader, and forklift operational knowledge preferred.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
- Positive, high-energy, and self-motivated.
- Ability to multitask, perform under stressful conditions, and adapt to changing conditions.
Physical Demands
- Hearing, seeing (acuity, near, far, and depth), talking, sitting, standing, walking.
- Lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling (up to 50 lbs).
- Climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, handling, fingering, feeling.
- Wearing personal protective equipment.
- Ability to work at heights.
- Routinely exposed to plant environment including noise, dust, dirt, vibrations, and extreme climate changes.
- Availability to work on both a scheduled and call-out basis, including shift work and assisting in other areas of the department or site as needed.
