Primary Responsibilities
- Detect and resolve vehicle malfunctions in both shop and field settings.
- Seek out and accept training and mentoring to advance career goals.
- Contact parts department for necessary components.
- Maintain accurate inventory on service vehicle.
- Achieve appropriate stock levels on service vehicle.
- Tag and save parts under warranty or as requested by the customer.
- Inspect assigned vehicle for additional service or safety-related work.
- Communicate with service management about additional work, non-need of work, or unexpected repairs.
- Document all work performed and recommended on the repair order.
- Road test vehicles as required.
- Participate in manufacturer-sponsored training programs, schools, and events.
- Follow service policies and procedures for safety, profitability, and accuracy.
- Achieve industry certifications as required.
- Stay updated on manufacturer updates and technical bulletins.
- Learns to use new information technology as it becomes available.
- Mentor less-skilled technicians as assigned.
- Report machinery and equipment defects and malfunctions to department management.
- Ensure vehicle cleanliness and report any changes in its appearance or condition to management.
- Maintain and be accountable for all dealership-owned tools and equipment.
- Comply with federal, state, and local regulations, including EPA, OSHA, and DOT.
- Report any safety issues to management immediately.
- Interact respectfully with customers in the field.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a commercial motor vehicle (CMV).
- Experience with heavy duty vehicles and trailers.
- Knowledge of diagnostic tools and techniques.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
