Mobile Diesel Service Technician / Mechanic
About the role
MHC, North America’s largest Kenworth truck dealership and leasing group, is seeking a Mobile Diesel Service Technician / Mechanic to perform heavy-duty mechanical truck repair and maintenance at customer locations. This role involves developing customer relationships to achieve labor sales quotas, analyzing customer operations for service sales opportunities, and performing routine mechanical repairs with general supervision. The technician coordinates repair orders with the Service Manager and Shop Foremen, schedules work with the Service Advisor, and advises customers on needed services while suggesting additional sales opportunities.
This is a safety-sensitive position that requires strict adherence to safe work practices, proper use of safety equipment, and immediate reporting of any damage to company or customer property. The technician is responsible for maintaining company vehicles, documenting repair work, controlling business expenses, and achieving labor sales objectives for assigned accounts.
Responsibilities
- Perform heavy-duty mechanical truck repair and maintenance at customer locations.
- Develop and maintain customer relationships to achieve labor sales quotas.
- Analyze customer operations for opportunities to increase service sales in the designated territory.
- Coordinate customer repair orders with the Service Manager and Shop Foremen.
- Schedule work with the Service Advisor for mobile maintenance business.
- Advise customers of needed service work and suggest additional labor, parts, and body shop sales.
- Follow safe work practices and procedures, using safety equipment as required.
- Ensure proper safety, care, and maintenance of company vehicles.
- Report any damage to company or customer equipment or property immediately.
- Maintain favorable relations with customers.
- Create and close repair orders in the MHC business system to document work performed and time spent.
- Complete paperwork accurately to document repairs.
- Control business expenses within the approved budget and manage tooling and parts inventory on the service truck.
- Oversee operations of assigned customers in the territory and call on key accounts regularly.
- Introduce preventive maintenance, new products, promotions, and existing services to customers.
- Achieve labor sales objectives and quota for assigned accounts.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Requirements
- Minimum three years’ heavy-duty truck repair experience.
- A/C, Brake, and DOT Annual Inspector certifications required.
- Engine and Component certifications are a plus.
- Self-motivated and capable of working with little supervision.
- Commitment to customer satisfaction and performing quality repairs.
- Excellent communication skills and a positive, can-do attitude.
- Necessary tools to perform position responsibilities.
- Class A or B CDL and/or DOT medical card may be required depending on the size of the mobile service vehicle.
