About the role

The Mobile Diesel Technician II will perform licensed DOT inspections, preventative maintenance inspections, light and advanced repairs, advanced mechanical/hydraulic/electrical and electronic diagnostics, and other duties as assigned. This role is heavily relied upon for advanced diagnostics and triage of complicated repairs by Mobile Diesel Technician I/II and serves as the Lead on jobsites for customers and technicians. Functions as a consultant on the customer's behalf while complying with all company policies and achieving high-level performance metrics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled preventative maintenance ("PM"), DOT inspections, and follow-up repairs on light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles in a mobile/field environment.
  • Perform minor adjustments and repairs on various types of truck equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
    • Starters/Alternators
    • Fan clutches
    • Engine electronics
    • Diesel steering systems
    • Engines (gas and diesel)
    • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
    • Clutches
    • Differentials
  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck equipment, including but not limited to:
    • Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems
    • Starters/Alternators
    • Air conditioning systems
    • Fan clutches
    • Engine electronics
    • Diesel steering systems
    • Engines (gas and diesel)
    • Transmissions (manual and automatic)
    • Clutches
    • Differentials
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions using test instruments such as handheld computers and pressure gauges.
  • Road test vehicles to diagnose malfunctions and ensure proper functionality.
  • Identify problems, determine accuracy and relevance of information, and use sound judgment to evaluate alternatives.
  • Independently manage parts inventory and equipment on the company-issued service truck and perform periodic reconciliation.
  • Maintain and operate the company-issued service vehicle, conduct safety checks, and perform pre-/post-trip inspections.
  • Work effectively with clients and customers to assess needs, provide information, resolve problems, and meet expectations.
  • Manage concurrent tasks, prioritize work-related activities, and allocate time effectively.
  • Use hand tools, precision instruments, Diesel tools, welding equipment, lifts, and jacks.
  • Document work performed, parts used, and findings on Repair Orders (RO) using a company-issued iOS device and the proprietary TRAIT application.
  • Accurately complete DOT forms and other documentation in a timely manner.
  • Work with a high degree of independence and manage your own daily schedule.
  • Maintain high productivity and work within or close to Standard Repair Times.
  • Obtain parts from approved local and national vendors as necessary for repairs.
  • Communicate with management and support teams via email or phone for approvals, purchase orders, or RO findings.
  • Perform all work in compliance with organizational safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT).

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field. Alternatively, any level of degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline or 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience with refrigerated equipment.
  • Possess and supply a set of hand tools necessary to perform required job duties.
  • OEM training and certifications are preferred.
  • Participate in and complete all company-required training.
  • Must successfully complete and pass a DOT-regulated pre-employment background screening and DOT physical prior to employment. A current and valid DOT medical card with more than four (4) months remaining may be submitted in lieu of a DOT physical.
  • Due to interstate commerce regulations, candidates must be at least 21 years or older.
  • Valid driver's license required; must be able to obtain and maintain a Driver Qualification File.

Pay

Hourly pay rate ranges from USD 35.29 to 52.88 per hour. The base rate may vary based on factors such as location and the candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. The position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including commission or incentive programs.

Schedule

  • Eligible for a minimum of 6.67 hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year.
