Mobile Application Developer
MANTECH seeks a motivated, career- and customer-oriented Mobile Application Developer to join our team in Ashburn, VA. This is a hybrid position with 2-3 days onsite per week.
About the role
The Mobile Application Developer will design, develop, and maintain secure, high-performance mobile applications critical to supporting U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) personnel in the field. These applications facilitate the secure processing of aliens and enhance the agency’s ability to detect and deter illegal immigration. The successful candidate will work within a cross-functional team to deliver mission-critical software that operates in challenging environments.
Responsibilities
- Design, code, test, and deploy native or cross-platform mobile applications (iOS/Android) that support CBP field operations.
- Develop mobile tools that assist agents and officers in the processing of aliens, the management of border security data, and the interdiction of illegal immigration.
- Ensure all mobile applications adhere to strict DHS and federal cybersecurity standards, including data encryption, secure authentication, and FISMA compliance.
- Integrate mobile applications with backend enterprise systems, databases, and real-time data feeds to provide actionable intelligence to personnel in the field.
- Create intuitive user interfaces optimized for field use, ensuring high usability under varying operational conditions.
- Monitor application performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement updates to ensure continuous availability and reliability.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. BS/BA and 7+ years, MS/MA/MBA and 5+ years, or PhD/Doctorate and 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Hands-on experience in mobile application development (Swift, Kotlin, React Native, or Flutter).
- Proficiency in RESTful APIs, mobile security protocols, and cloud-based backend services (e.g., AWS GovCloud, Azure Government).
- Knowledge of mobile data storage and testing frameworks.
- Demonstrated ability to develop software solutions for complex, high-stakes operational environments.
- Must be a U.S. citizen with a current/active Top-Secret clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain DHS CBP suitability prior to starting this position.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing applications for federal law enforcement or defense agencies.
- Knowledge of mobile device management (MDM) solutions and secure containerization.
- Experience with offline-first application architecture for use in remote or low-connectivity areas.
- Familiarity with Agile/DevSecOps methodologies.
- Experience with Atlassian suite of tools such as Jira and Confluence.
Physical Requirements
The person in this position needs to occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, or to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
