About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The goal is to build sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities

  • Develop GN&C requirements with flow downs to component levels and companion verification methods.
  • Support system and subsystem analyses needed to develop requirements.
  • Manage technical budgets and performance metrics.
  • Collaborate with other subsystems and spacecraft systems engineers to define subsystem boundaries and interfaces.
  • Perform analyses, simulations, and tests (including component and hardware-in-the-loop) to verify component and subsystem specifications and requirements.
  • Develop verification and validation plans to ensure software and hardware components, and the integrated subsystem will perform as specified to meet system and subsystem requirements.
  • Support the definition, development, and execution of simulations and tools necessary for verification of subsystem functionalities.
  • Support providing updates to schedule, resources, cost, and risks.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or related subject areas.
  • Experience in full development lifecycle of GN&C subsystem on at least one aerospace program.
  • Demonstrated experience in development and testing of navigation sensors and control actuators.
  • Demonstrated experience in implementation and testing of GN&C software and hardware.
  • Solid system engineering and configuration management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized and capable of planning and guiding complex technical work.
  • Ability to perform in a dynamic, fast-paced, and driven work environment.
  • Able to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships.

Qualifications

  • Passion for our mission and vision is required.
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical engineering or related subject areas preferred.
  • 10 or more years of design experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience leading full development lifecycle of GN&C subsystem in at least one aerospace program preferred.
  • Demonstrated advanced knowledge in the development of planetary spacecraft GN&C systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with development of descent and landing software for planetary missions preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Rendezvous and Proximity Operations and Docking preferred.
