About the role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. The goal is to build sustainable infrastructure for transporting crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct thermal and fluids analysis to define the performance and operations for various spaceflight systems
  • Define hardware requirements and resolve technical challenges
  • Take ownership or support analysis tasks of a complex fluid system by conducting 1D-3D thermal and fluids analysis
  • Contribute to the product life cycle process from early conceptual design through completion of the flight mission
  • Derive component requirements, system test requirements, and system sizing
  • Analyze flight or ground processes
  • Document and maintain analysis inputs, models, and present results to stakeholders

Requirements

  • Minimum of BS degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering
  • More than 4 years of direct experience on Space applications Fluids & Propulsion analysis
  • Strong MATLAB programming skills
  • Strong understanding of thermal and fluid mechanics of cryogenics, hypergolics, and compressibles with relevant experience in the space industry
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop/SINDA/FLUINT
  • Experience with technical propulsion system trade studies
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of inclusion
  • Work closely with other cross-functional teams as needed

Qualifications

  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
  • Experience with modeling propulsion/cryogenic fluids management (storage, transfer, phase change, …)
  • Knowledge of other tools including MATLAB, Simulink, Amesim
  • Advanced graduate degrees (Masters or PhD) preferred
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages (e.g., MATLAB, Python, C/C++, FORTRAN)
  • Active/passive Thermal/Pressure Control System/component design

Skills

  • Strong understanding of thermal and fluid mechanics of cryogenics, hypergolics, and compressibles
  • Experience with Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) (Flow3D, CFD++, ANSYS Fluent)
  • Experience with MATLAB, Simulink, Amesim
  • Experience with Thermal Desktop/SINDA/FLUINT
  • Experience with technical propulsion system trade studies
  • Experience with modeling propulsion/cryogenic fluids management (storage, transfer, phase change, …)

Base Pay Range: $121,023.00 - $169,432.20 for CA applicants, $110,938.00 - $155,312.85 for CO applicants, $121,023.00 - $169,432.20 for WA applicants
