About the role

The Mine Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating a variety of heavy equipment, primarily bulldozers and excavators, in construction, maintenance, and excavation projects. This position requires a minimum of 3-5 years of recent experience in construction as a heavy equipment operator, specifically with bulldozers and excavators.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in excavation and site construction.
  • Follow company safety procedures and bring problems to the attention of supervisors.
  • Perform routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, referring defects or needed repairs to the supervisor; clean equipment.
  • Knowledge of moisture condition, cut grade, and ability to load trucks.
  • Knowledge of cutting and filling grade.
  • Prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
  • Work independently and as part of a team.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to standard procedures.

Qualifications

  • At least 3-5 years recent experience in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
  • Experienced bulldozer and excavator operator.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational and attention to detail skills.
  • Excellent time management and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive and friendly disposition.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Experience with excavators and dozers, must-have.
  • Optional experience with rollers, motor graders, and articulated trucks.

Working Conditions

  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, squatting, pulling, pushing, climbing, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, seeing, and standing for long periods.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting on forklifts or other warehouse equipment.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, bright lights, dust, fumes, gases, all climate types including hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment like safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats.
  • Able to react quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Ability to move and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.
