About the role

The Mine Heavy Equipment Operator is responsible for operating various heavy equipment (mainly bulldozers and excavators) used in construction, maintenance, and excavation. Key roles and responsibilities include:

  • Operating heavy equipment of various sizes and weights used in excavation and site construction.
  • Properly following company safety procedures.
  • Bringing problems to the attention of the foreman, superintendent, safety director, or HR manager.
  • Performing routine inspections and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment and referring defects or needed repairs to the supervisor; cleaning equipment.
  • Possessing knowledge of moisture condition, cut grade, and ability to load trucks.
  • Possessing knowledge of cutting and filling grade.
  • Preferring knowledge of GPS.

Requirements

Required education, experience, and qualifications include:

  • At least 3-5 years recent experience in construction as a heavy equipment operator.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to prioritize tasks and delegate when appropriate.
  • A friendly disposition, personable, and professional.
  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team.
  • Recognize confidential information and maintain it according to standard procedures.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
  • Excavator experience, required.
  • Dozer experience, required.
  • Roller experience, preferred.
  • Motor Grader experience, preferred.
  • Articulated Truck experience, preferred.

Qualifications

Essential duties of this position include:

  • Bending, lifting, climbing, pushing, pulling, kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, squatting, pulling, pushing, climbing, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, and seeing for long periods of time.
  • Moderate to heavy lifting and carrying.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment.
  • Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc.
  • Able to wear common protective or safety equipment such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, breathing protection, and hard hats when needed.
  • Able to work under stressful conditions at times.
  • React quickly using hands, fingers, or feet.
  • Able to move and lift to 40-pound wooden skid or pallet.
  • Able to work throughout the facility to conduct safety inspections.
  • Able to comprehend and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Able to complete tasks even with frequent interruptions.
  • Able to use discretion and independent judgment as needed.
  • Able to speak clearly on the phone and to fellow workers.

Working Conditions

The essential duties of this position require moderate to heavy lifting and carrying. Prolonged periods of sitting on a forklift or other warehouse equipment are also required. Exposure to moderate noise levels, vibrations, and bright lights; exposure to dust, fumes, and gases; exposure to hot and cold temperatures, humidity, rain, snow, etc. are also part of the job.
