Position Overview

TBP seeks compassionate individuals interested in joining our team as part-time instructors of Mindful Self-Compassion for youth and families in Clallam and Jefferson Counties. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds.

Job Responsibilities

  • Lead Mindful Self-Compassion sessions for youth and families in a range of settings, including in-school, after-school, and summer camp.
  • Complete 10-week online Mindful Self-Compassion instructor training prior to independent instruction and assist with Benji Project programs during the training period.
  • Participate in ongoing training and curriculum development to hone skills.
  • Adapt teaching and presentation style as appropriate across program settings, as consistent with the curriculum.
  • Actively seek, receive, and integrate feedback for continuous programmatic improvement.
  • Collaborate with fellow instructors and Benji Project staff.
  • Partner with school districts and community organizations to coordinate in-school program delivery.
  • Contribute to a team culture that reflects the organization's values of mindfulness, compassion, and inclusivity.
  • Communicate clearly regarding scheduling needs and preferences to support organizational program coordination.
  • Manage scheduling commitments with varied program times, including school-day, after-school, and evening hours.
  • Comply with documentation and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

  • A passion for mental health is vital.
  • The ideal candidate will possess the following:
    • Background working with preteen/teen youth.
    • Experience presenting content and facilitating educational experiences with groups of youth and/or adults.
    • Expertise engaging participants through multiple modalities–hands-on, discussion, etc.
    • Creative problem-solving skills in on-the-ground program situations.
    • Familiarity with mindfulness and/or meditative practices.
    • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work as a collaborative team member.
    • Willingness to engage with the logistical and administrative aspects of programming.
    • Interest in seeking and integrating feedback for continuous programmatic improvement.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Training/experience in mental health care.
  • Experience working with youth from a range of backgrounds and diverse communities.
  • Ongoing personal practice of mindfulness.

Organizational Commitment

  • Uphold and model The Benji Project's core values in all interactions with youth, families, and colleagues.
  • Commit to a minimum two-year engagement with the organization.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • All instructors must have reliable transportation to travel to workshops/camps across Clallam County, with possible travel to Jefferson County, as well.
  • TBP reimburses mileage in accordance with IRS rates for all offsite (non-office) trips requiring more than 15 miles round trip.
  • The Benji Project program management team collects scheduling needs and preferences from instructors, and then assigns specific programs to instructor teams based on availability as well as skillsets and fit for the particular program context.
  • The more flexibility an instructor has around scheduling, the more programs they are likely able to teach.
  • Instructors have access to Benji Project offices in both Clallam and Jefferson County. They will be provided with materials held at these locations, and are responsible for managing their own inventories of materials needed for specific programs.
  • Instructors may have access to shared organizational computers, but in general they are expected to use personal laptops and cell phones.

  • The Benji Project requires all individuals who receive a conditional offer of employment to successfully complete a criminal background check prior employment.
