Install, maintain, upgrade, and fabricate machinery and equipment according to layout plans, blueprints, and other drawings in an industrial establishment. This is a full-time position with 12-hour shifts on a rotating schedule.
Responsibilities
- Read blueprints and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
- Dismantle machinery or equipment, using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools.
- Move machinery and equipment, using hoists, dollies, rollers, and forklift trucks.
- Assemble and install equipment, such as shafting, conveyors, and manufacturing equipment, using hand tools and power tools.
- Construct foundation for machines, using hand tools and building materials, such as wood, cement, and steel.
- Align machines and equipment, using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, micrometers, lasers, and plumb tools.
- Assemble machinery and bolts, welds, or otherwise fastens them to foundation or other structures, using hand tools and power tools.
- May operate lathe or milling machine to grind, file, and turn machine parts to dimensional specifications.
- Repair and lubricate machinery and equipment.
- Select cables, ropes, chains, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves, according to weight and size of load to be moved.
- Attach load with grappling devices, such as loops, wires, ropes, and chains to crane hook.
- Set up braces and rigs hoisting equipment using hand tools and power wrenches.
- May direct workers engaged in hoisting of machinery and equipment.
- Perform duties of general labor, skilled laborer, and carpenter as needed.
- Able and willing to train others.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills
- Adhere to strict safety guidelines and cognizant of safety risks.
- Working knowledge of mechanical technical skills to effectively read specifications, machine manuals, and blueprints.
- Proficient in troubleshooting techniques to solve machine issues.
- Ability to be a team player.
Work Environment
- Temperature: High temps between 80-100 degrees, depending on time of year.
- Noise: Decibels can average around 90 dBA and reach peaks up to 115 dBA.
- Chemicals: Exposure to oil and cleaning chemicals.
Physical Demands
- Constantly: standing, walking, bending/crouching, reaching.
- Frequently: lifting and carrying 1-15 lbs, climbing (stairs/ladders), pushing or pulling, twisting.
- Occasionally: lifting or carrying 30+ lbs.
