Night shift: Sunday–Thursday, 11:00 pm – 7:30 am.
About the role
Maintain the facility and grounds in compliance with facility-manager, company, U.S.D.A., and all local, state, and federal requirements.
Responsibilities
- Remove empty ingredient bags and other trash from the warehouse.
- Sweep warehouse floor, including areas between rows of pallets and equipment racks.
- Maintain and clean work areas on and around the warehouse ramp.
- Maintain a clean work area around dumpsters and boneyard, removing buildup from concrete edges.
- Take bin measurements daily or as needed.
- Keep the yard, driveways, and grounds neat and orderly: pick up trash, cut weeds, fill tire ruts and holes.
- Sweep and maintain the bin deck area, silo deck, distributor floors, and whirley-cleaner deck.
- Check receiving scales for loose ingredients; sweep scales and driveway approaches as necessary.
- Clean the manlift, including the inside, top, and area below the manlift on the first floor.
- Assist with housekeeping in other mill areas as needed.
- Perform regular housekeeping tasks to minimize dust accumulation and spider webs from warehouse areas, including equipment racks, walls, pallets, roof areas, baghouses, elevator legs, bin deck, silo deck, catwalks, distributor decks, and whirley-cleaner decks throughout the shift.
- Participate as a team member in ongoing development, communication, and implementation of team concepts, programs, and policies.
- Coordinate work to ensure B.E.S.T. practices with all team members.
- Attend appropriate team meetings.
- Foster strong team cohesiveness on major issues (direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes).
- Identify and report areas lacking cohesiveness to the team leader and work to resolve issues.
- Support Simmons’ operating systems (quality, security, office environment, company policies) and communicate concerns or improvement ideas.
- Perform other duties as necessary in support of business objectives.
Physical demands
- Enter and locate information on a computer; visually verify small print.
- Lift and move up to 100 pounds from any level.
- Work in temperature extremes and outdoor environments, on feet for the entire shift.
- Work in a dusty environment.
- Climb ladders throughout the shift.
Requirements
- Use appropriate footwear, hearing protection, and other required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Pass a company-issued forklift written and driving test if needed.
- Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification.
Preferred qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience in poultry or food processing.
- Military experience valued; veterans are encouraged to apply.
