Mill Utility

JOB SUMMARY

The Mill Utility position supports Mativ’s PKGSP - Packaging & Specialty Papers team at the Brownville, NY Mill. The role involves performing tasks related to manufacturing operations on the paper machine, coater, and inspection winder. Responsibilities include transporting and staging rolls, threading machines, making saturants, coatings, and general housekeeping.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Conduct self and job tasks in a safe manner following proper work procedures.
• Perform and document inspections.
• Maintain and stock operating supplies as needed or directed, including cores, pallets, wrap, etc.
• Move rolls between Machine, Calendar, and Rewinder areas.
• Collect scrap and waste from the process to bale.
• General housekeeping duties.
• Aid the Rewinder crew in preparing production materials.
• Ensure work area and machinery are clean, neat, organized, and free of safety hazards.

QUALIFICATIONS

• 1 year machine operating experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
• Mechanical aptitude required.
• Basic math, reading, and writing skills required.
• Ability to maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance required.
• Ability to use a ruler or other measurement tools to ensure products meet customer expectations.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work shiftwork and weekends as needed.
• Ability to work twelve (12) hours or more per day when needed.
• Ability to respond to call-ins at any time of day or night when needed.
• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
• Ability to bend, kneel, squat, and stoop.
• Ability to read and understand instructions, procedures, and equipment training manuals.
• Ability to accurately read and record data.
• Ability to climb stairs, steps, ladders, scaffolds, mobile lifts, and elevator platforms.
• Ability to operate/use manual and powered material handling equipment such as hand dolly, chain fall, chain hoist, electric hoist, fork truck.
• Ability to learn and utilize computer-based systems.
• All applicants must pass a pre-employment physical, background check, and drug screen.

POSITION DEMANDS

• Manufacturing environment conditions: Air temperatures can range from cold to hot, atmosphere may contain dust, fumes, and odors, mechanical, electrical, chemical, explosive, and radiation hazards.
• Personal Protective Equipment (PPE): Safety shoes (steel toe or composite toe), safety glasses, protective gloves, hearing protection, and other required PPE.
• Physical demands: Be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds, work 12-hour shifts, perform repetitive tasks, stand, sit, hear, walk, reach, climb, bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance, have good close vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus, and meet Mativ certification requirements to operate PIV’s.

COMPENSATION

The hourly rate for this position is $21.69 per hour.
