Military Pay Clerk/Military Pay Technician
This is an on-site position located in Indianapolis, IN.
Duties
- Process or review a wide variety of standard pay actions which establish, maintain, adjust, or close pay accounts to adequately compensate service members.
- Review all supporting documents prior to submitting pay transactions into the automated military pay system. Ensure that previous payments were proper, determine entitlements, previous bonuses paid, previous readjustment payments, etc.
- Audit, balance, and close out military leave records or reconstruct them as necessary.
- Make standard adjustments to pay accounts and process actions to adjust accounts if necessary.
Requirements
- Suitable for Federal Employment.
- Registered for Selective Service (males born after 12-31-1959).
- Must obtain and maintain a Financial Management Certification.
- This national security position requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- New employees will be required to successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet one of the following experience or education requirements:
GS-04 Level:
- Generalized Experience: One year of generalized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade (GS-03) within the federal service. Generalized experience is defined as progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position.
- Education Substitution: Two years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field may be substituted to meet the general experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may also be used.
GS-05 Level:
- Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of a GS-04 within the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing duties that support the processing of financial/accounting transactions using standardized procedures, which may include reviewing financial/accounting systems information/documents for accuracy/completeness, inputting financial/accounting information into automated systems, or correcting invalid financial/accounting transactions.
- Education Substitution: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required. Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may also be used.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education Verification:

Education must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
