About the role
The Military Outreach Coordinator will represent the Epstein Family Military Center at Community College Transfer Fairs and on-base Military Education Fairs. They will be a primary contact for potential military-connected students and help promote the University of San Diego to the military community.
Responsibilities
- Develop, present, and promote the University of San Diego to potential military-connected students with on and off-campus partners.
- Attend and represent the EFMC at community college, transfer, and military education fairs at local military installations.
- Attend University orientations, open houses, and information sessions for potential students on and off campus, often outside regular business hours.
- Meet regularly with prospective undergraduate students and their parents (as requested) to discuss educational opportunities and benefit information.
- Use sound judgment, independently seek out, vet, coordinate, establish, and maintain communication networks with appropriate institutions and representatives across organizational lines.
- Work collaboratively with the Offices of Graduate and Undergraduate Admissions, Schools, and the College on military-connected student recruiting initiatives.
- Conduct military awareness training for various stakeholders, including Military-Connected Ally Support Training.
- Visit local Community College Veterans Centers to promote the University of San Diego and the Military and Veterans Program.
- In support of students’ sense of belonging, engage in EFMC activities on and off campus, including retreats, graduation ceremonies, and weekends and evenings.
- Encourage students to examine their complex intersectional individual and community identities in relation to self and others.
- Assist in maintaining an inclusive and welcoming space for everyone in the Epstein Family Military Center.
- Manage the communications about our center’s events and resources.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum two years of experience in a customer service position is required.
- Knowledge of Veteran rules, regulations, and compliance issues is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of experience in a customer service position preferred.
- Experience directly supervising others developmentally and professionally preferred.
- Experience planning and coordinating events preferred.
- Previous military experience and/or familiarity with the military/veteran community and those who have served is preferred.
Performance Expectations
- Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
- Knowledge of policies and procedures related to Veterans’ benefits programs.
- Ability to meticulously maintain databases and websites, print materials, and produce reports.
- Ability to gather and analyze data relating to the USD Military and Veterans’ Program and USD military students to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
- Strong interest in working at a mission-driven, faith-based institution.
Special Conditions Of Employment
- This is an 80% position that will be off and unpaid for 6 weeks each fiscal year; dates to be determined by supervisor and employee.
Job Requirements
- Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required.
- Substitution: A High School diploma and two additional years of work experience may substitute for Bachelor’s degree at the rate of one year of work experience is equivalent to two years of education.
- Minimum two years of experience in a customer service position is required.
- Knowledge of Veteran rules, regulations, and compliance issues is required.
