Milieu Director | Short-term Group Home

About the role

The Liberty Village program at The Home for Little Wanderers is a short-term group home program for up to 16 young men and women, ages 18-25 struggling with housing insecurity. The program provides a safe place to stay, clinical support, and assistance in identifying long-term housing options to combat homelessness.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual and team supervision for Residential Supervisors
• Hire, train, and evaluate staff performance; oversee disciplinary action and terminations
• Provide input regarding salary administration for Supervisors and Counselors
• Hire new counseling staff
• Care for residents and provide crisis intervention as needed, including the use of restraints; assume a leadership role in managing emergency situations
• Coordinate the placement and training of volunteer staff
• Provide direct therapeutic care to the residents and TCI crisis intervention as needed
• Oversee petty cash system and the processing of bills; authorize expenses
• Review and sign off on all incident reports; participate in the gathering of information for incidents not handled in a manner consistent with HLW guidelines
• Develop and oversee implementation of behavior management system
• Monitor the effectiveness of behavior management strategies
• Ensure a therapeutic environment on the milieu at all times
• Ensure that therapeutic activities are planned at all necessary times and oversee the coordination of these activities
• Serve as a leader or chair of a task force or special discipline
• Interface with collateral agencies and various HLW departments to integrate services with educational, medical and clinical disciplines
• Work to resolve interdepartmental conflicts
• Act as an advocate to milieu services and milieu staff; align milieu department needs with agency priorities
• Attend HLW Milieu Leadership meeting once a month and coordinate and share resources with other milieu leaders throughout the agency
• Co-chair treatment team meetings as well as weekly staff meetings
• May be required to carry a mobile device

Qualifications

• Equivalent to Bachelor’s degree
• 4 years plus direct child care experience in a residential setting with a similar population
• 2 plus years' supervisory experience
• Computer literate, including Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer, with the ability to learn new software applications
