MILAP Community Outreach Coordinator- RAILS
About the role
The Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, Inc. (PBRC) is seeking a highly motivated, organized, and bright individual fluent in Spanish or Haitian Creole to join the Maryland Immigrant Legal Assistance Project (MILAP). This role aims to increase access to PBRC’s immigration legal services for individuals residing on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. MILAP provides free legal advice to Maryland residents facing deportation and offers limited legal services to help vulnerable families and children meet case deadlines, such as completing asylum applications or changing court locations.
The MILAP Community Outreach Coordinator will focus on raising awareness about MILAP’s services and available resources for those unable to secure legal representation. The position requires ready access to transportation and the ability to be physically present on the Eastern Shore to engage with service-seekers and community-based organizations in person.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the first point of contact for the MILAP team, including service-seekers, community members, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
- Share referral information and resources with immigrants contacting PBRC for legal assistance.
- Communicate with service-seekers to assess eligibility for services and coordinate appointments.
- Assess language fluency of volunteers to confirm their ability to provide interpretation and translation services.
- Assist with recruitment efforts for volunteers, including attorneys, students, and others.
- Draft outreach and marketing communications using Outlook and Mailchimp.
- Monitor and update the RAILS public-facing webpage to ensure accurate information about volunteering opportunities and community resources.
- Develop a network of community partners in collaboration with the team.
- Schedule and deliver presentations to educators and local community-based organizations about available resources and updates.
- Increase community awareness of resources, including brief legal advice clinics, case placement services, and relevant city, state, and social service programs.
- Represent MILAP at stakeholder meetings.
- Coordinate with other immigration legal service providers to share capacity information and resources with the community.
- Track and summarize data related to outreach efforts.
- Assist with legal clinics in Baltimore City and Hyattsville, including registration, intake, client paperwork, client flow management, resource referrals, and interpretation for volunteer attorneys.
- Develop and implement creative outreach strategies to connect unrepresented immigrants in removal proceedings with legal services and resources.
- Create outreach materials for volunteer recruitment and translate documents as needed.
- Provide support to the Project Director for grant reporting duties.
Requirements
- Fluency in Spanish or Haitian Creole (required).
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Experience in community organizing, activism, and/or public outreach.
- Availability for some evenings and weekends for outreach events and community clinics (with advanced notice).
- Access to reliable transportation for frequent travel to PBRC’s office and other Maryland locations, with a focus on the Eastern Shore.
Skills
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
- Proficiency in MailChimp.
- Experience with data collection and tracking (prior Salesforce experience preferred).
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, clients, public interest organizations, governmental entities, Board members, and donors.
- Experience working with children and/or the immigrant community (preferred).
- Strong commitment to community support and ensuring equal access to justice.

- Competitive salary ranging from $50,000 to $54,000, depending on experience.
