Job Summary
The Religion Teacher is responsible for providing students with a high-quality, faith-based education rooted in the teachings, traditions, and values of the Catholic Church. The Religion Teacher serves as a spiritual and moral role model, guiding students in their faith formation and helping them integrate Gospel values into daily life. This position requires a strong commitment to Catholic education and a deep understanding of Catholic theology and doctrine.
Job Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and theologically sound religion lessons aligned with diocesan and school curriculum standards.
- Employ a variety of instructional strategies and resources to meet the diverse spiritual and academic needs of students.
- Integrate Scripture, Church teaching, and Catholic social teaching into classroom instruction.
- Absess student understanding through a variety of formative and summative assessments and use results to inform instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding faith and academic growth.
- Foster a classroom environment that reflects Catholic identity, values, and respect for the dignity of each person.
- Lead students in daily prayer and encourage participation in liturgical celebrations, retreats, and service opportunities.
- Model Christian living and support students in their spiritual development and moral decision-making.
- Collaborate with clergy, campus ministers, and other faculty to plan and participate in faith-based activities.
- Ensure all teachings and discussions are consistent with the doctrines and practices of the Catholic Church.
- Create a safe, respectful, and inclusive classroom environment conducive to faith and learning.
- Establish clear expectations for behavior and consistently enforce school policies with fairness and compassion.
- Promote responsibility, discipline, and self-reflection in students as part of their moral formation.
- Collaborate with colleagues, administration, and parish staff to support the mission of Catholic education.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide liturgies and events.
- Maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and integrity in all aspects of the role.
- Engage in ongoing faith formation and theological study to remain current in Church teachings.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Education, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
- Valid state teaching credential or willingness to obtain certification.
- Strong knowledge of Catholic doctrine, Scripture, and moral theology.
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church, committed to modeling faith in action.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively in a school community.
- Commitment to the philosophy, mission, and values of Catholic education.
