About the role

The core responsibilities of the position include planning, implementing, and supervising the religious education program for grades 5 through 8 in accordance with the goals, policies, procedures, philosophy, and curriculum of the school and the Diocese of Brooklyn. Along with following a curriculum, the teacher is responsible for fostering the intellectual, social, physical, and faith development of students.

  • Actively engage students of all abilities and learning styles
  • Create differentiated unit plans and assessments
  • Assign and review meaningful homework
  • Demonstrate effective classroom management by developing an understanding of students in the classroom
  • Collaborate with faculty, especially other members of the middle school "team"
  • Communicate effectively with parents and families

Requirements

  • Must be a practicing Roman Catholic committed to the mission of Catholic education
  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • Hold a valid New York State Certification or be eligible for certification
  • Prior experience in a Catholic school setting would be beneficial
