Responsibilities

• Teach reading comprehension strategies, literary analysis, informational text structures, vocabulary development, and critical reading skills.
• Explain inference, theme identification, text comparison, and prepare students for grade-level reading proficiency and standardized assessments.
• Guide students in close reading, evidence-based responses, and critical analysis of fiction and nonfiction texts.
• Help students identify themes, analyze character development, evaluate arguments in informational texts, and cite textual evidence.
• Develop independent reading strategies and connect reading skills to success in English, social studies, and science.
• Adapt instruction using diverse text selections, annotation strategies, and graphic organizers to support students from struggling to advanced levels.
• Provide 1-on-1 online tutoring and accept on-demand tutoring requests when available.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of middle school reading standards for grades six through eight, including common challenges like inferencing from complex texts, analyzing author craft, and building reading stamina.
• Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
