Responsibilities

• Teach reading comprehension strategies, literary analysis, informational text structures, vocabulary development, and critical reading skills.
• Explain inference, theme identification, text comparison, and author purpose while preparing students for grade-level proficiency and standardized assessments.
• Guide students in close reading, evidence-based responses, and critical analysis of fiction and nonfiction texts.
• Help students identify themes, analyze character development, evaluate arguments, and cite textual evidence in written responses.
• Develop independent reading strategies and connect reading skills to success in English, social studies, and science.
• Adapt instruction using diverse texts, annotation strategies, and graphic organizers to support students from struggling to advanced levels.
• Identify common student challenges and explain material using multiple approaches to meet individual learning needs.

Requirements

• Deep knowledge of middle school reading standards (grades 6–8) and common challenges like inferencing, analyzing author craft, and reading stamina.
• Ability to teach close reading, evidence-based responses, and critical analysis of fiction and nonfiction texts.
• Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
• Experience adapting instruction to different learning styles and student needs.
