Responsibilities
- Teach reading comprehension strategies, literary analysis, informational text structures, vocabulary development, and critical reading skills.
- Explain inference, theme identification, text comparison, and prepare students for grade-level reading proficiency and standardized assessments.
- Guide students in close reading, evidence-based responses, and critical analysis of fiction and nonfiction texts.
- Help students identify themes, analyze character development, evaluate arguments in informational texts, and cite textual evidence.
- Develop independent reading strategies and connect reading skills to success in English, social studies, and science.
- Adapt instruction using diverse text selections, annotation strategies, and graphic organizers to support students from struggling to advanced levels.
- Identify common student struggles and explain material using multiple approaches to meet individual learning needs.
Requirements
- Deep knowledge of middle school reading standards for grades six through eight, including inferencing, author craft, and reading stamina.
- Ability to teach close reading, evidence-based responses, and critical analysis of both fiction and nonfiction texts.
- Familiarity with common challenges such as analyzing complex texts, author purpose, and building reading stamina for longer works.
- Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
- Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
