Responsibilities
- Teach foundational middle school math concepts, including integers, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratios, proportions, order of operations, algebraic expressions, basic equations, geometry fundamentals, measurement, and data analysis.
- Explain number sense, coordinate plane plotting, and mathematical reasoning to build skills for high school math and standardized testing.
- Break down complex topics (e.g., fraction operations, proportion problems, multi-step word problems) using visual models and hands-on manipulatives.
- Guide students through pre-algebra, geometric area/volume calculations, and statistical graph interpretation.
- Emphasize conceptual understanding through real-world applications (e.g., recipes, budgeting, sports statistics).
- Adapt instruction to address common challenges (e.g., fraction division, negative numbers, multi-step equations) using concrete-pictorial-abstract progression and interactive activities.
- Identify and address individual learning needs with targeted scaffolding to build confidence and abstract reasoning skills.
- Communicate effectively with a friendly, engaging teaching style tailored to diverse learning styles.
Requirements
- Deep mastery of middle school math topics (grades 6–8 standards).
- Familiarity with common student challenges and adaptive instructional strategies.
- Strong communication skills and ability to explain concepts using multiple approaches.
- Experience with 1-on-1 or small-group tutoring (preferred but not required).
