Middle School Math Tutor

Responsibilities

SmartStart Education is seeking a small‑group middle school math tutor to work with groups of 1‑4 students who are struggling with fundamental math skills (grades 6‑8). The tutor will meet with each group several times per week at a middle school in Staten Island, NY, providing push‑in or pull‑out services as needed. Responsibilities include taking daily attendance, monitoring student progress using a personal device, and being flexible and comfortable in both classroom and pull‑out settings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (any field) – required; anticipated graduation dates not accepted.
• At least one year of teaching or tutoring experience in a school or educational setting.
• Mastery of middle school math concepts and skills.
• Understanding of the unique challenges faced by urban students, including racial, socio‑economic, and cultural disparities.
• Genuine passion and commitment to fostering student success.
• Exemplary punctuality and reliability.
• Strong communication skills for interacting with students, colleagues, and stakeholders.
• Ability to commute to the designated Staten Island school.
• Ability to navigate a school environment, including hallways, classrooms, and stairways.

Pay

Salary Range: $30.60 - $34.00 per hour.

Schedule

• Option 1: Start Date: 10/13/2026 – End Date: 01/26/2027; Schedule: Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday; Hours: 7:40 AM – 2:00 PM
• Option 2: Start Date: 10/14/2026 – End Date: 01/29/2027; Schedule: Monday, Wednesday, Friday; Hours: 8:00 AM – 2:20 PM
