About the role

We are hiring a World Language Teacher specializing in Mandarin Chinese to deliver world-class language instruction. This role involves building safe, nurturing classrooms where students collaborate toward common learning goals. Teachers work alongside colleagues, parents, and students to ensure an exceptional educational experience.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate passion for and expertise in Mandarin Chinese language and culture
• Provide world-class instruction using data to guide and differentiate learning
• Incorporate feedback from school leaders, colleagues, students, and professional development to grow professionally
• Build relationships with students and parents to create a safe, welcoming, and engaging learning environment
• Perform other duties as assigned to support the Lansing School District mission

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in language education or a related field
• Alignment with Lansing School District’s mission and values

Preferred Qualifications

• Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate with a world language endorsement (e.g., FA, FB, FC, FF, FG, FH, FJ, FK, FL, FN, FR, FS)
• Previous successful teaching experience in an urban setting

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

• Ability to move throughout the building and campus, including classrooms, hallways, and outdoor spaces
• Frequent verbal communication for instruction, meetings, and collaboration with staff and families
• May be required to stand or walk for extended periods, including during supervisory duties
• Occasional bending, reaching, or sitting on the floor to interact with students
• Regular use of computers and instructional technology for planning, instruction, and communication
• Ability to lift or carry instructional materials and supplies weighing up to 25 pounds
