Mandarin Immersion Social Studies Teacher (Middle School)

About the role

Educates and nurtures students in a Chinese immersion environment following Yinghua Academy’s mission, core values, and principles. Promotes critical thinking, civic engagement, historical understanding, and global awareness through meaningful and engaging social studies instruction.

Principal Roles & Responsibilities

• Maintains a safe and nurturing Chinese immersion learning environment.
• Fulfills academic program duties such as delivering direct instruction, supporting students, conducting assessments, and collaborating with colleagues.
• Prepares and submits curriculum pacing and lesson plans, integrating current events and culturally responsive resources.
• Attends grade-level academic events and participates in professional development.
• Manages classroom behavior according to school guidelines and policies, seeking guidance as needed.
• Maintains accurate student records, prepares progress reports, and completes evaluations.
• Participates in staff meetings, communicates with parents, conducts parent-teacher conferences, and maintains timely communication with all stakeholders.
• Complies with school policies and protocols, upholds professional conduct, and demonstrates reliability and good judgment.

Program Compliance

• Maintains accurate student records and proper documentation.
• Completes progress reports and evaluations.
• Attends all required safety and health training.
• Follows all school policies and protocols.

Communication

• Participates in grade-level and staff meetings.
• Communicates academic performance, classroom behavior, and personal management expectations to students.
• Maintains timely and effective communication with parents.
• Conducts parent-teacher conferences as scheduled.
• Reads and responds to school communications promptly.

Professional Conduct

• Upholds professional and ethical standards in all interactions, maintaining confidentiality and respect.
• Maintains a professional image and positive attitude.
• Completes responsibilities in a timely and accurate manner.
• Meets set objectives and goals with minimal supervision.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Holds a valid Minnesota teaching license in Social Studies (5–12) or K-12 Chinese, or has the ability to obtain licensure through the Professional Educator Licensing & Standards Board.
• Demonstrated ability to meet the school’s standards for Chinese and English language proficiency.
• Demonstrated ability to integrate technology as an instructional tool.
• Strong understanding of middle school pedagogy and adolescent development preferred.
