Valid Texas teacher certificate and 3+ years of coaching experience in a formal educational setting, including experience in more than one sport. Positive teaching experience in Kinesiology or related fields. Demonstrated leadership with diverse students, staff, families, and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise all physical education and athletic programs on the middle-school campus.
  • Facilitate communication between coaches, campus administration, and the district athletic department.
  • Lead and coordinate the physical-education program for all grade levels, ensuring a safe, quality environment for all students.
  • Work with campus administration and staff to maximize the academic and athletic performance of all athletes and programs; collect and disseminate required data on athlete performance.
  • Collaborate with high-school coaches in feeder patterns to align middle-school athletic programs with high-school practices, terminology, scheme, and training methodology.
  • Assist campus administration and the athletic department in hiring and assigning coaches to sports and supervision responsibilities.
  • Supervise and formally evaluate all coaches using the CFISD Athletic Evaluation instrument.
  • Ensure all coaches and student-athletes adhere to UIL and district policies; verify student-athlete eligibility and compliance with UIL and CFISD requirements.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and regularly evaluate students’ athletic abilities.
  • Enforce student discipline during contests, practices, and trips in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and Student Handbook.
  • Follow the chain of command for resolving athletic and academic concerns, issues, and problems.
  • Oversee equipment inventory and maintenance of equipment rooms; ensure proper care and maintenance of all campus athletic fields and facilities.
  • Assist with coordination, planning, and execution of assigned district-wide athletic events and activities.
  • Ensure all staff maintain CPR/First Aid/AED certification and other state and locally mandated requirements.
  • Perform administrative duties as assigned by the principal and athletic department.
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.

Schedule & Pay

  • 187-day probationary/term contract.
  • Salary at Pay Grade T60 (Teacher Classification) as approved by the Board of Trustees: https://www.cfisd.net/Page/1995.
  • Additional athletic stipend as approved.

Working Conditions

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Athletic equipment, standard office equipment (computer and peripherals), instructional equipment, automated external defibrillator (AED), operate a school bus.
  • Posture: Prolonged standing; kneeling, squatting, bending, stooping; frequent driving.
  • Motion: Frequent walking and physical movements associated with assigned sport(s).
  • Lifting: Frequent light lifting (under 15 pounds); occasional moderate lifting or carrying (15–44 pounds).
  • Environment: Work outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, inclement weather) and inside; frequent exposure to noise; frequent district-wide and state-wide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and moving vehicles.
  • Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress.
