Middle School English Language Arts Teacher - St. Procopius School - Pilsen

St. Procopius School is part of the Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools, serving more than 40,000 students across 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. The Teacher serves as a representative of the Catholic Church, acting as both a role model and a communicator of the Church’s message to students. This is a ministerial position, accountable to the principal and committed to upholding the educational policies of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the local school.

About the Role

St. Procopius School is seeking a passionate, energetic, and mission-driven Middle School English Language Arts teacher. The ideal candidate will inspire a love of learning, create engaging and meaningful lessons, and support the diverse needs of middle school students. This role involves designing dynamic lessons that strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills while fostering curiosity, creativity, and critical thinking. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong classroom management, a deep understanding of adolescent learners, and the ability to build positive relationships that motivate students to grow.

Responsibilities

• Teach one section of Religion
• Create engaging lessons that meet the needs of diverse learners
• Use technology and innovative strategies to enhance instruction
• Build a positive, structured classroom environment that supports student success
• Teach and act in accordance with Catholic doctrinal and moral teachings
• Serve as a role model for the religious formation of students and as a representative of the Archbishop of Chicago and the Catholic Church
• Know, teach, and act consistently with the religious and educational mission, philosophy, objectives, and policies of the Catholic school
• Complete Catholic identity formation training and other required professional development from the Archdiocese of Chicago
• Lead and/or participate in religious instruction, ceremonies, rituals, or other religious activities as directed by the principal
• Communicate regularly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and the principal
• Participate in professional development programs required by the Archdiocese or local school/parish
• Perform teaching duties as assigned by the principal
• Attend required faculty and staff meetings
• Cooperate with the principal and staff in school-related meetings, activities, and projects
• Maintain accurate student attendance and academic records
• Maintain a safe, orderly, and secure learning and working environment
• Participate in the annual performance review
• Maintain confidentiality and discretion regarding school personnel, students, and general school matters
• Positively represent the school/parish at all events and in the general public
• Complete any additional tasks assigned by the principal essential to the function of the position

Requirements

• Practicing Catholic (preferred, required for religion teachers)
• Must meet compliance with safe environment requirements
• Bachelor’s degree
• Valid state licensure for the grade/subject area (preferred, not required)
• Completion of Catholic identity formation training

Pay

This position offers a salary range of $38,527–$68,776 for Lay employees and $35,686–$62,316. Compensation within the range will be based on factors including relevant education, qualifications, experience, skills, geographic location, and organizational needs.
