Middle School English Language Arts Teacher

About the role

The Middle School ELA Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging and standards-aligned instruction in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. The educator will foster a supportive classroom environment that promotes critical thinking, literacy development, and a love for language arts among students.

Responsibilities

  • Create and model a respectful learning environment.
  • Plan appropriate lessons and activities to meet students' needs.
  • Use effective classroom management techniques.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques based upon sound education theory, which are appropriate to students' needs.
  • Achieve and interpret student performance assessment results.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential records as required by law and district policy and administrative regulations.
  • Establish and maintain open lines of communication with school staff and with parents/guardians concerning academic and behavioral progress of students.
  • Implement modifications and accommodations for all students with IEPs.
  • Utilize technology as related to job responsibilities.
  • Maintain and update current Grade Book and online ParentVue.
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and school events.
  • Attend and participate in building staff meetings, IEP meetings, PLTs, and district in-service meetings.
  • Take primary responsibility for pursuing and evaluating own professional growth.
  • Perform physical requirements unaided or with the assistance of reasonable accommodation.
  • Annually pass the district's required online training by the district's assigned due date.
  • Follow District protocol for reporting absences.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Coaching and other extracurricular stipend positions are also available.

Requirements

  • Valid Oregon Teaching License with an endorsement in English Language Arts for middle grades.
  • Strong knowledge of adolescent literacy development and instructional strategies.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Prior successful teaching experience at the middle school level is preferred.
  • Experience working with English Language Learners and/or students requiring academic intervention.
  • Strong knowledge of language development, WIDA standards, and MTSS/RTI frameworks.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and use student data to inform teaching.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to exhibit professionalism and effective human relations.
  • Ability to effectively manage and supervise students and their work.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred.
  • Experience teaching in a rural or small-school setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with MAP Growth assessments preferred.

Qualifications

Salary and work year to be according to the current negotiated contract.
