About the role
The Middle School Dean of Student Life is responsible for overseeing the academic and social-emotional development of middle school students at Mott Haven Middle School. This position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of adolescent development, and the ability to foster a positive and inclusive school environment.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily operations of the middle school, ensuring a safe and supportive learning environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and families to support student success and address individual needs.
- Develop and implement strategies to promote student engagement and academic achievement.
- Facilitate regular meetings with faculty to discuss student progress and classroom management.
- Manage the middle school’s extracurricular activities and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
- Work closely with the principal to develop and implement school improvement plans.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree in education, psychology, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role within a K-12 educational setting.
- Experience working with adolescents and a demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities under tight deadlines.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of best practices in middle school education and student development.
- Experience with data-driven decision-making and the ability to analyze and interpret student performance data.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software tools.
Skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Experience with conflict resolution and mediation.
