About the role
This is you if you:
- Would rather be outside than at a desk
- A dog losing his mind with joy when you walk in is your idea of a good morning
- Want steady hours during school hours, not nights and not guesswork
Responsibilities
- Walk neighborhood dogs on recurring routes
- Coach dogs into great leash manners
- Cover let-outs, potty breaks, and vacation drop-ins
- Care for cats at home, including feeding, litter, play, and medications
- Send photo updates and visit reports that make clients' whole day
- Drive between visits across our service area
- Keep learning: we pay for your continuing education in dog behavior
Schedule
- 10 to 25 hrs/week, you pick the number (must be consistent)
- Year-round only. No summer-only hires
- Primary need: Tues/Wed/Thurs, 9 AM to 1 PM or 10 AM to 2 PM
- Mon to Fri 5 days a week is also heavily considered
- Evenings, weekends, and overnights optional
- Flexibility required: days may move around due to cancellations, last-minute walks, or routes in nearby towns
Pay and Benefits
- $16.94/hr paid training
- $17 to $23/hr walking pay (new hires start at the low end; raises come with tenure and performance)

Service Area
Must live in or very near (no exceptions): Essex, Old Saybrook, Old Lyme, Lyme, Westbrook, Clinton, Madison, Deep River, Chester, East Lyme & Niantic.
Mileage adds up fast in this work. A 40-minute drive to your first dog wears out your car and eats your earnings, so we hire close to our routes.
Requirements
- 18+ years old with a genuine love for animals
- Patient, respectful, reliable, and detail-oriented
- Calm and confident with fearful, reactive, or excitable dogs
- Comfortable outdoors in any weather
- Able to handle large or strong dogs (90+ lbs) and stay on your feet for several miles a day
- Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and current auto insurance
- Smartphone with data and ability to pass a background check
