About the role

The Jacksonville office of McGuireWoods seeks an Associate to join its Labor & Employment Department. McGuireWoods' Labor and Employment group counsels employers in every aspect of the employer/employee relationship — from compliance, traditional labor issues, and internal investigations to federal contracting and executive compensation. Our Employment Litigation Practice Group brings seasoned trial lawyers with experience in every form of employment claim in state and federal courts and in arbitral forums such as AAA, JAMS, and FINRA. We have an outstanding record of success at each stage of litigation — in cases involving discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, restrictive covenant violations, wage-and-hour disputes, and ERISA claims, among others. We are the go-to advisers for our clients' most sensitive and challenging employment litigation issues.

Responsibilities

  • Counsels employers in every aspect of the employer/employee relationship
  • Counsels employers in compliance, traditional labor issues, and internal investigations
  • Defends employers against claims under Title VII, the ADA, the FMLA, the ADEA, the FLSA, ERISA, and the Florida Civil Rights Act
  • Represents unionized employers in labor matters and tort litigation
  • Practices before federal and state courts and agencies nationwide
  • Serves clients across the transportation, hospitality, education, healthcare, and consumer products industries

Requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in labor and employment litigation, including preparation for depositions, legal research and writing, motions practice, and handling discovery
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state and local employment law
  • Trial experience is a plus

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience to include:

Skills

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with client, business, and legal teams
  • Strong academic record, excellent writing, and oral communication skills
  • Willingness and desire to work with innovative technology platforms
