About the role

The Mid-Level Electronics Technician will be responsible for inspecting, testing, installing, removing, and repairing shipboard electrical cabling and electronic equipment according to NAVSEA Standard Item (NSI) 009-73 requirements. Duties include cable installations such as banding, boxes, connectors, equipment, penetrations, cableway, hangers, and associated components. Additionally, the technician will perform MCT, MCP, stuffing tube opening, packing, closing, and testing, as well as bonding and grounding of electrical equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Inspection, testing, installation, removal, and repair of shipboard electrical cabling and electronic equipment
  • Cable installations including banding, boxes, connectors, equipment, penetrations, cableway, hangers, and associated components
  • MCT, MCP, Stuffing Tube opening, packing, closing, and testing
  • Bonding and Grounding of Electrical Equipment
  • Installation of modification kits, overhaul, repair, disassembly, reassembly of various electrical/electronic equipment using drawings, kit instructions and NSI 009-16 and 009-36
  • Initiate Work Authorization Forms (WAF)
  • Interpret and breakdown work scope from blueprints and drawings (arrangement, block-wiring, isometric, cable routing, power, lighting, and IC system removal/installation)
  • General understanding of electrical troubleshooting, use of multimeters and network testers
  • Electrical Fit up – use of grinders, reciprocating saws, drills
  • Lead small electronics teams in the execution of an electronics work item or ship alteration
  • Perform all work in accordance with the established policies and procedures detailed in the Waveforce Electrical Safety Manual
  • Capability to work on ships, barges and submarines
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 45 pounds

Requirements

  • Three (3) years direct experience in shipboard electronics installation and repair services
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • NSI 009-73 Qualified Connector Fabrication Certification (coaxial, triaxial, ethernet, and multi-pin connectors) required
  • NSI 009-123 Fiber Optic Handling Certification (preferred)
  • Pass Waveforce Electrical pre-employment drug and background screening
  • Obtain government facility and/or shipyard access, to include a DBIDS credential, as required by work locations
  • Successfully complete OSHA 10 Hour Training, Virginia Ship Repair Association (VSRA) Safety Orientation and all required Environmental, Health and Safety orientation training after initial employment, but prior to shipboard work
  • Able to work overtime, as required
  • Able to travel outside the Norfolk, Virginia area, if required
