About the role
The Garage Lab Specialist is a vendor-provided resource responsible for managing the makerspace and lab operations at a Microsoft Garage site. This role supports innovation programming, ensures safe and efficient lab operations, and serves as the primary liaison between the vendor (DXC) and Microsoft stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and manage all makerspace equipment and tooling.
- Enforce safety protocols and provide training for equipment usage.
- Oversee inventory tracking and procurement coordination.
- Ensure compliance with Microsoft EHS standards and documentation practices.
- Support the planning and execution of Garage events, hackathons, and workshops.
- Manage logistics, setup, and breakdown for technical programming.
- Act as the on-site contact for participants and stakeholders during events.
- Champion the SkillUp AI initiative by delivering hands-on workshops and demos.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to design experiential learning opportunities.
- Track engagement and continuously improve offerings based on feedback.
- Coordinate with DXC and Microsoft Garage Leads to meet service-level expectations.
- Report on lab usage, performance metrics, and deliverables.
- Ensure alignment between contract obligations and day-to-day lab operations.
- Evaluate and improve lab workflows and user experience.
- Maintain clear documentation of best practices and training materials.
- Use Microsoft 365 and project tracking tools to manage lab operations.
Required Skills & Experience
- Proficiency with makerspace tools (e.g., 3D printers, CNC machines, soldering).
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills under time constraints.
- Experience supporting technical events and workshops.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder coordination abilities.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and project tracking platforms.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, technology, or related field.
- Certification in lab safety or facilities management (e.g., OSHA).
- Experience in vendor or managed service environments.
- Exposure to innovation labs or R&D settings.
- Certifications in Agile, PMP, or process improvement methodologies.
- Technical credentials in AI, data science, or emerging technologies.
